Son of Edward the Elder, succeeded his half-brother, Æthelstan, with whom he had fought
stabbed to death at Pucklechurch (Gloucestershire), on St Augustine's Day
• Title, 940. 2 King of Wessex Edmund married Saint Ælfgifu of Shaftesbury, daughter of Unknown and Wynflæd of Shaftesbury. (Saint Ælfgifu of Shaftesbury died in 944.) Edmund next married Ethelfleda of Damerham in 944. (Ethelfleda of Damerham died between 962 and 991.) |
