He was a gentleman of some £5,000 a year, on whom the government had conferred a Baronetcy, in requital of an important service rendered at an acute political crisis. Sir James, havlng been marrled for seven years, and no sign of a family, rather prematurely as it turned out, decided that he was not going to be blessed with any offspring and a family compact was entered into, by which it was arranged that, at Sir James' death, his eldest grand nephew, Henry, would succeed to the property, taking the arms and name of Sandersen, accompanied with a request to the Government which Sir James had reason to believe weald be granted, that the Baronetcy should be continued to the heir. Thomas, it was arranged should, in this case, succeed to his maternal grandfather's landed Estate, and take the name and arms of Roxby. But this was feted not to be, for, hardly had the arrangement been put into legal shape, when Lady Sanderson took a hand in the matter and showed signs of increasing the population. Result, a daughter, and only child, who grew up and, as her father's heiress, inherited all his property. She married a wealthy gentleman, in the north of England, of the name of Burden who, on his marriage, had to assume the name of Sandersen, which he conjoined with his own name, and they became Burden-Sandersen.
