Adèle's influence lay mainly in her family connections. On the death of her brother, Henry I of France, the guardianship of his seven-year-old son Philip I fell jointly on his widow, Ann of Kiev, and on his brother-in-law, Adela's husband, so that from 1060 to 1067, they were Regents of France.

Adela married Duke Richard of Normandy III, son of Duke Richard of Normandy II of Normandy and Judith of Brittany, about 1015. (Duke Richard of Normandy III was born in 997 and died in 1028.)

Adela next married Count Baldwin of Flanders V, son of Count Baldwin of Flanders and Unknown. (Count Baldwin of Flanders V was born on 19 Aug 1012 and died on 1 Sep 1067.)
