Mrs Mary Ann Morris ¹

  General Notes:

<p>Mary Ann was married at the age of 23 to William Begg Nicholson and had eight children and then at the age of 43 married James Henry Ashen (also known as Jimmy Greenwood). From this marriage one child James Greenwood Ashen was born. He was born 30 August 1922 and died 31 May 1991. Mary Ann died of Essential Hypertension, Coronary Artery disease-years, Reticulosarcoma </p><p><p>Breast-6 months.</p></p><p><p></p></p><p><p>Mother Mary Ann Morris by James Greenwood Ashen.</p></p><p><p></p></p><p><p>Born at Te Awamutu in 1879. Had two brothers and at least 5 sisters. Two brothers died during the flu epidemic in 1918.</p><p><p></p></p><p><p>Married William Nicholson and had 8 children; Lillian, William, Ian, Charl, Jess, John, Grace and Ken.</p><p><p></p></p><p><p>During this time they livedin varying country districts - Te Awamutu, Whangarei and Coromandel areas. Mr Nicholson was a Country Hotel owner and also purchased and broke in rough blocks for farming. </p><p><p></p></p><p><p>Mary Ann was widowed in 1919 while farming in the Whangarei area and moved to Takapuna to run the Lake House boaring house situated in Hurstmere Road. At the beginning of the BIg Depression this was lost and burnt down.</p><p><p></p></p><p>In 1921 she married James Henry Ashen known as James Greenwood. Had a son James Greenwood Ashen in 1922 at Belmont. They lived at various Takapuna and Devonport addresses until her death approximately 1958.

Mary married Mr William Begg Nicholson on 12 May 1905 in Mount Eden, Auckland, New Zealand. (Mr William Begg Nicholson was born on 16 Apr 1855 in Auckland, New Zealand, died on 29 Jul 1918 in Whangarei, , Northland, New Zealand and was buried in Auckland, New Zealand.)
