Bullock charge: Nov 1890, Auckland City, Auckland, New Zealand

Auckland Star 12 November 1890
Mount Roskill Road appears to be a somewhat dangerous locality for pedestrians, judging by the experiences of Mr T. S. Gibbins, a resident in that district. It appears thatabout 7.30 oçlock this morning a drove of between 20 and 30 bullocks was being driven along Mount Roskill Road. Just as they were approaching his house Mr Gibbons came out of his gateway. Mr James McGregor had previously noticed that one of the bullocks was separatede from the herd and appeared rather wild. Mr Gibbins did not quite understand what was called out, and was walking along when the bullock charged him. Mr Gibbons then made good time to the nearest stone wall, over which he scrambled with considerable alacrity. He was only just in time, for the next instant the bullock reached the wall, striking it with such force that a portion of the stomework was knocked over and the wooden gate smashed. Mr Gibbins did not escape entirely unhurt. His wrist is damaged and the sinews of his neck are strained, in additiona to which his umbrella was smashed to pieces. A little earlier teh same bullock gored a horse in Valley Road, which was so seriously injured that it had to be ridden into an adjoining paddock and left there. Mr Gibbins was, therefore, lucky in getting off so easily under the circumstances.
