Count Geoffrey of Anjou III 1
- Born: 1040
- Died: Cir 1096 aged about 56
General Notes:
Geoffrey III the Bearded and Fulk IV le Réchin, shared the succession. However, they soon came into armed conflict, and Fulk defeated Geoffrey in 1068.
He married before 1060 Julienne de Langeais, who died after 7 August 1067 and by whom he had no issue.
He succeeded his uncle Geoffrey II in 1060, but his power was limited by attacks from his own brother Fulk IV. A serious confrontation with the Church led to his condemnation by a council, then his deposition and imprisonment in 1068. He was freed by the intervention of Pope Urban II in 1096, and died soon after.
