<p>Born at home 30 .12 1921 Roker St, Spreydon, Christchurch</p><p>Second child of Muriel and Stan Stephens</p><p> </p><p>Older sister Joan b Jan 1921 attended Christchurch Tech was a prefect</p><p>Younger brother Robert Thomas Bruce (Bruce) attended Christchurch West High</p><p>( He was the brainy one)</p><p> sister Barbara b 1936 attended Somerville School, Chch Sth Intermediate and at Christchurch Tech College was a prefect</p><p> </p><p>Contacted Polio at 2 years of age</p><p>Left with a club foot</p><p>Crippled Childrens society</p><p> </p><p> Somerfield School</p><p>Christchurch Technical College was a prefect ( have the badge)</p><p>St Saviours Anglican church Sydenham</p><p>Commercial Travellers Club</p><p>Doric Lodge</p><p>Worked for PO communitcations during warWW 11 at Hokitika</p><p>Philips Electrical( commercial Traveller)</p><p>Stewart Electrical ( commercial Traveller)</p><p>GEC ( commercial Traveller)</p><p>As a traveller travelled the length of NZ selling electrical goods.</p><p> </p><p>Played Bowls and Golf in later years</p><p>Belonged to Christchurch Bowling club and Harewood Golf Club</p><p>Travelled to Australia with Joyce with the club members</p><p> </p><p>Spent many happy hours at the Commercial travellers club.</p><p>Glenda and I would sit in the car outside on Saturday afternoons and he would bring us out fizzy drinks and chips.</p><p> </p><p>Saturday nights we would walk with Dad to the corner shop on Sawyers Arms Rd to pick up the Sport News of the day. There was always a large block of chocolate bought to accompany the reading of the paper.</p><p> </p><p>The favourite Uncle of many of his nieces and nephews whose families he would stay with on his travels around NZ.</p><p> </p><p>Always loved a party and commented each time." This is better than work isn't it"</p><p> </p><p>Loved his three beautiful girls. Always very proud of all of us. Glenda and I felt equally loved as Mum was. Likedto say his daughters had their mothers good looks and their fathers charm. </p><p> </p><p>When he came in from a trip away her would kiss Mum at the sink and say "what's cooking good looking."</p><p> </p><p>Gold Band then Blue Star Taxi Driver in later years. Owned his own taxi.</p><p>Decorated the taxi for weddings on Saturdays.</p><p>Or took the photographer ( who did not drive) to wedding venues.</p><p> </p><p>Enjoyed his betting sydicate. One day he got into touble with Joyce about this as she thought the full amount she found on a chit in his pocket was all his betting. Not realizing it was for a group of 12.</p><p>Known to have the luck of the Irish. Always took number 8 raffle ticket at the club and won nearly every week against all odds.</p><p> </p><p>Played cards with the boys most Fridays in his retirement years.</p><p> </p><p>Loved his grandchildren Benjamin, Miriam and John</p><p>Who slept over every second weekend with him and Joyce.</p><p> </p><p>Walked around the block at Papanui for many years after his retirement. A well known figure with his walking stick and his gate due to his club feet ( from polio)</p><p> </p><p>Broke his hip at 69 years of age by tripping over a mat.</p><p>After the operation suffered a post op stroke.</p>Finally settled at Bethsaida Rest Home in Harewood Rd where he live for 7 years confined to a wheelchair. Joyce visited him daily. He did not speak clearly and did not really know who Joyce and Janet were. Although in a way he knew they belonged to him somehow.

Bryan married Joyce Alice Montgomery, daughter of William Montgomery and Elfriede Wilhelmina "Freda" Dreckmann, on 1 Nov 1948 in Dargaville, New Zealand. (Joyce Alice Montgomery was born on 5 Apr 1922 in Dargaville, New Zealand 4 and died on 9 Jul 2009 in Christchurch, Canterbury, New Zealand.)
